The plug has been pulled on much loved community light festival Art in the Dark as the funding runs dry.

The free event has transformed Ponsonby’s Western Park into a brightly lit hub of installations and sculptures every November since 2009. Over its residency, Art in the Dark has seen over 150,000 visitors attend the event to the see illuminated work from participants across New Zealand and further abroad.

As well as a prolific number of exhibitors, the event has worked with local organisations and schools in its education and outreach programme to highlight sustainability and environmental issues.

While Art in the Dark won’t take place in 2015, organiser have revealed that the event will return in 2016 with, “new energy, ideas, a programme of international standard and a potentially new venue to suit its growing audience.”

Art in the Dark Creative Director Celia Harrison also said, “We would like to thank our funding bodies, artists, sponsors and the entertainment industry for their extraordinary support that has meant we have been able to create a truly unique and memorable event for Auckland.”
