After temporarily combining two of life’s greatest pleasures last year - laughter and pizza - independent venue Montecristo Comedy will make its return just in time for the 2016 NZ International Comedy Festival.

During its last outing, the pop-up venue handily located underneath prize-winning pizza restaurant Toto's hosted 17 different shows to an estimated 6,500 punters. In its second year, Montecristo Comedy will play host to 21 slices of comedy gold featuring local favourites, emerging talent, and international visitors.

The Montecristo Opening Showcase will kick things off on Thursday 21 April featuring practically every stand-up comic performing over the venue’s short duration: Wilson Dixon, Guy Montgomery, Guy Williams, Brendon Green, Tim Batt, Sanjay Patel, Matt Stellingwerf, Alexis Dubus, Eamonn Story, Tessa Waters, Jamaine Ross, Cohen Holloway, Sophia Johnson, Jerome Chandrahasen, and Kade & Jeremy.

Further shows taking place at the space until May 14 include: the UK’s Alexis Dubus in an attempt to uncover the science of swearing, the ancestry of all your favourite swears and why the f*ck we do it in the first place; recent graduates of The Improv Bandits training program in their debut onstage appearance; Kade Nightingale and Jeremy Rolston who will use their combined comedy and magic skills to delve into the world of O.C.D, and Mexico’s former WWF superstar El Jaguar in a highly interactive evening of comedy about the mediocrity of celebrity.
