Overview

Racket is the boisterous brother of the Britomart Hospitality stable. You only need visit their website once to get enough lols for the entire week, while getting an insight into their tongue-and-cheek approach to hospitality.  Though, don't let its attitude ward you off from the shin-kicking power within.

With "Auckland's Most Expensive Fire Hazard" right out the front in the shared alley, it's a great place to spend Winter nights away from the fierce weather. They also share their cocktail and bar snacks menu with their Southern American counterparts Orleans next door, so you can pick up everything from fried chicken ($15), cornbread ($8) and curly fries with gravy and cheese ($10) while waiting for a table. If you're a rum fiend or perhaps a pirate, then you're in the right place. Racket has a whopping 85 premium rum varieties stocked in the cabinet. The bar staff will be able to give you a good run down of each and pair you with the right brew. The drinks list doesn't stop there. They also have a range of fancy champagne, wine in both colours from the finest vineyards around the country and beers for all tastes and wallet sizes - Double Brown ($6), Wharf Road Wheat Beer ($12) and the crème de la crème, Moa ($24).

From Monday through Saturday, the bar hosts a number of Auckland's top DJs. Don't expect to hear the Top 30 mainstream hits, though you may find yourself chanting along to Billy Joel. And, if you'd rather stay at home, the bar's blog provides a hilarious guide to tele watching.
