Overview

Located at the top of Mt Eden Rd, you'll find The Corner Store, which is pretty much the equivalent of three small bars in one.

The trifecta of areas cater to different strokes - moody, breezy and other. The entrance is a dimly lit cavern that would suit those simply after a drink or a good pre-gig hangout spot if heading to the neighbouring Powerstation for a mosh. The sizeable function room is available to hire for special occasions, and the courtyard proves well as a sit down area to enjoy the tapas-style menu, all while getting some fresh air.

Food is meant to be shared and ranges from warm spiced nuts ($3.50), breads and dips ($9.50) to crumbed haloumi ($9.50), pork belly ($13), lamb ($12) and calamari ($12). The indecisive diner could go all out and get a platter - comprising of the latter four for $29. The New Zealand cheeseboard ($27) is a good opener to pair with the large wine list. It features cheese varieties for all palates as well as fresh dates, the adventurous carrot marmalade, oat biscuits and pear.

They have an extensive selection of malt whiskey ranging from Islay, Japan, New Zealand and beyond. For those with a reason to celebrate, there is a large array of champagne to work through. Bubbles will set you back anything from $67 for a bottle to $690 - targeted at those looking beyond the top shelf and into the cellar. There's also Asahi on tap and two rotating craft options, depending on the mood and the season.
