All round good humans Sustainable Coastlines are constructing an entirely waste-free, massive community centre on the corner of Beaumont and Madden in Wynyard Quarter. The centre will play host to a large scale, interactive, multimedia educational display on New Zealand's coastlines and waterways. Something which the charity 'Sustainable Coastlines' is obviously pretty passionate about (see their name and also this).

As part of the project, Sustainable Coastlines have roped in local prisoners to construct the site and modify the salvaged timber and shipping containers in the prison's workshop - giving the prisoners some useful qualifications along the way. All the plans and strategies going into making the building waste-free will also become open source once building's complete, meaning we might just see a few more like it pop up in future.

The goal is to build New Zealand's most eco friendly building and meet the cheerfully dubbed 'The Living Building' standard, the world's most rigorous environmental standard. To do so though, they need to raise $60,000 in the next 27 days.

If doing something good for the environment is your kind of thing or you're open to be bribed by a cool free water bottle or sticker, throw some cash their way.
