Overview

Auckland Diwali Festival or 'Festival of Lights' is returning for its annual celebration of song, dance and culture. Join thousands of Aucklanders to revel in the rich and vibrant culture of India in Aotea Square with live music, food stalls and dance performances. The festival is alcohol free, free to attend and family friendly so there's no excuse not to head into the city and immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and smells of India.

The festival will start at 12pm and end at 9pm on both days so there will be plenty of opportunity to sample authentic cuisine from the many food offerings available and enjoy the Bollywood dance competition. International acts will be visiting Auckland for Diwali providing an array of different art forms. Feast your eyes on the delicate artworks of a paper cut artist who will be carving art works out of paper, and enjoy performances from the Kathak Dance Group led by international film actress and dancer Megharanjani Medhi. Another traditional art form is puppeteering and you will also get the chance to experience puppet master Vinod Bhatt and his team of Rajasthani puppeteers.

Sunday evening will culminate in a fireworks finale to end things with a bang. So what are you waiting for? Grab your friends and family and experience the holy festival of lights.
