Overview

Don McGlashan's last Auckland show was a rather swanky affair at the Hopetoun Alpha. This month he is embarking on a tour that promises to be a little more low key.

With the recent release of his much vaunted album Lucky Stars, Don will play shows at many smaller venues, some in parts of town that don't often see live music of this standard. Although, it seems fitting given that many of his tunes are reflections on the very suburbs where he will perform.

Don seems in high spirits, having just returned from Australia he had this to say:

"Jacarandas in purple splendour, cicadas that sound like a malfunctioning power station, Huntsman spiders that dart darkly across the bathroom ceilingy when you're having a shower - there's nothing like touring Australia in the summer. Thanks to everyone who came, this has been the best Aussie tour ever for me. I'll be back early next year by the looks of it."

A career that begun in the late 1970s has seen McGlashan become one of New Zealand's most treasured songwriters. There are many songs of his that need no introduction what so ever, and other pieces of magic that lie deep in albums by Blam Blam Blam and The Mutton Birds. It's a unique chance to catch one of the greats perform in front of only a few.
