Overview

Fans of alternative-pop should mark their calendars in anticipation as Doprah and Yumi Zouma – two of New Zealand's most exciting young acts, head out on tour for a slew of shows across the country in an exciting double-bill. Dreamy soundscapes and trip-hop beats will fill the dilapidated expanse of Mt Eden's Crystal Palace Theatre, with support provided by local act Soccer Practise.

Born out of an online collaboration between Christchurch's Steven Marr and Indira Force, Doprah found early acclaim with their self-titled EP and two #1 singles on the New Zealand alternative music chart. Having since grown from a duo into a six-piece group, the band's first full length album Wasting has found new depths within the trip-pop genre and favourable vocal comparisons to Bjork and Cocteau Twins. Doprah are becoming renowned for their immersive live performance, utterly fitting the mood of the the historical venue.

Chances to see Yumi Zouma are few and far between. With the band split across continents, their soon to be released album Yoncalla was conceived on the road and recorded in Paris during a brief pause in an otherwise hectic touring schedule. Yumi Zouma have opened for the likes of Chet Faker and Lorde and performed on the same bills as musical contemporaries Autre Ne Veut, How To Dress Well and Tei Shi. Their upcoming New Zealand tour signals an opportunity to perform new material on home turf before jetting back overseas for shows throughout North America, Europe and Japan.
