Overview

If a trip to the Globe is on your bucket list, but not exactly within your budget thanks to the fact that the iconic theatre is situated approximately 18,324 kilometres away, it's about to land right on your doorstep, so you can tick that experience off without the need for a long haul flight.

As its debut in New Zealand, the Globe Theatre is bringing one of Shakespeare's most loved and widely discussed plays, Hamlet. The tragic tale of a son avenging his father's murder that has summonsed audiences from the world over, and burdened students during exam time for years. You might be familiar with the play in writing, or the 1990 filmic rendition starring Mel Gibson, or the 1996 version directed by Kenneth Branagh. But chances are you haven't witnessed the play performed in its intended medium, on stage, under the direction of world renowned artistic director Domino Dromgoole.

The sixteen man cast consists of globally sourced talent, and includes our own local Rawiri Paratene of Whale Rider fame. Head along to the SkyCity theatre to one of its three performances in June to celebrate Shakespeare's 450th birthday in true thespian style.
