Overview

You probably know Irish songwriter Andrew Hozier-Byrne best via his pseudynom Hozier. The artist can be held responsible for the inescapable ear worm 'Take Me to Church', a track which went viral thanks to Youtube and with a little help from his friend Taylor Swift.

A struggling musician at the time, Hozier wrote and recorded the demo version in the attic of his parent's house with just vocals and a programmed backing track. Also written after a break-up, the gospel-pop song details his frustration with the Catholic Church and its stance on homosexuality.

After gaining the attention of Columbia Records online, the song has taken Hozier from the pew to the bank; reaching number one in 12 countries, gaining a nomination at the 2015 Grammy Awards for Song of the Year, and a four times platinum certification in the US.

See Hozier and band play 'Take Me to Church' and the rest of the hits from his self-titled debut album at Vector Arena on November 5, 2015.
