Overview

If you are more into the club sammies than the club membership fees, then the Vintage Tennis League may be the perfect event for you. Tennis is one of those sports that everyone wants to like. When one tells others they admire the game of stringed racquets, one is generally met with appreciative nods and agreeable looks. Problems arise when the group one is speaking to just so happen to belong to a tennis club, and convince one to attend their next session, and one forgets that their idea of a lob is a chic hairdo worn exceptionally well by Emma Stone.

If this sounds like a situation you may find yourself in, then perhaps you should consider the more social and less strictly rule abiding day of vintage tennis. You don’t need your own racket. Or your own packed lunch. You don’t even need to smuggle in a bottle of bubbles to fit in with the cool crowd. All you need is a classic tennis getup, think John McEnroe and Pauline Betz, and a bit of game day spirit – the rest will be provided.

The best part of the day is its good intentions. All proceeds are going towards Live More Awesome, a charity for mental health awareness that is known for its general awesomeness around town, like the world’s biggest waterslide and the world’s biggest water balloon fight. So if you can’t get a ball over the net let alone overhead smash like Federer, no worries, you’re failing athletically for a good cause.
