Since 1980, not-for-profit organisation Odyssey has helped thousands of New Zealanders turn their lives around by overcoming alcohol, drug and gambling addiction. With seven treatment centres now based around the wider Auckland region, the good samaritans have now decided to continue their trail of good deeds by branching out into the hospitality biz.

Odyssey Café is the new social enterprise. Based in New Lynn, the café is targeted towards at-risk youth, helping them skill-up and gain confidence with a sparkly new resume. All profits from the café support a work experience and training programme for the participants including one-on-one coaching and support designed to help them gain further employment or progress to further education. Around 20 young people will be trained at the café each year, with a mission to reach 100 as the business grows.

Boutique coffee roasters Eighthirty have jumped on board the initiative as official caffeine partners so you can expect full-flavoured espresso from fair-trade and ethically-sourced beans, all while making a difference in someone's future.

Odyssey Café is now open at 4/3029 Great North Road, New Lynn from 7.30am to 2.30pm, Monday-Friday.
