Overview

The Turkish Cafe in Ponsonby has been in business since the 1980s and is a stalwart of the Ponsonby Road - Three Lamps dining scene. If you're thinking Turkish is really only kebabs then get rid of your thinking cap and waltz on down to this joint. The menu is large and everything is fresh and tasty.

Obviously you can hoon back a kebab, but get adventurous and try some of the other menu delights. The falafel is epic, and there are loads of choices from lamb curries, calamari, and vegetarian options to chicken meatballs and the Turkish favourite tabouleh.

Last time I was there, a group of at least 40 Americans began singing songs (they were a travelling choir). This place can handle the noise. Big long tables can always accommodate your largest entourage of pals.

The Turkish Cafe is perfect for both the Saturday BYO or for ducking into on a lazy Sunday arvo to pick up a quick and tasty kebab.
