Wise Cicada - CLOSED

One does not simply ‘pop in’ to Wise Cicada.

Overview

Wise Cicada is less of a café and more of a full-blown institution. Well before my weekend visit I had heard flurries of excited whispers from friends who were in the know, exclaiming over their organic finds from within the depths of Wise Cicada’s aisles and menu. Feeling as if I was about to meet an organic demigod, I was understandably more than a little excited.

Having to look no further than their cabinet selection to get my mouth watering, I tried the Israeli couscous salad with olives, coriander and a Mediterranean dressing (price by weight) – it was wholesome yet light, with the saltiness of the olives giving it the perfect kick. It was my solemn duty to follow with a slice of vegan chocolate cheesecake ($9), which I can now confirm to be the best no- dairy, no-gluten, no-refined sugar cheesecake I’ve ever tasted (and I’ve tasted a few). This was all washed down with a steaming mocha, crafted expertly with organic coffee beans and lightly frothed almond milk.

Beyond Wise Cicada’s café is a mind-blowing treasure trove of organic produce available to purchase. The aisles are packed high with anything and everything beneficial to your health. From meditation crystals and self-help books to organic milk and goji berries, there’s something for every hippie, and if you’re just starting out on the nutritious road to organic town, feel free to hit up Wise Cicada’s staff and nab a slice of their immense knowledge. Whichever way you roll with this place, here’s one piece of advice. One does not simply ‘pop in’ to Wise Cicada. Rather, one lingers amongst the healthy folk and leaves with bags of cacao powder and gluten-free pasta one never knew they needed until right that moment.
