Overview

When one door closes, another opens — and never is that more true than in the restaurant trade. Take the McLachlan Street space formerly occupied by Mighty Mighty, for example. When the popular eatery shut up shop, a new Italian restaurant moved in to take its place.

That'd be Casa Nostra Ristorante, aka the authentic establishment that's more than just another pizza and pasta joint. You'll find plenty of both here, but you'll also find a homely feel to match the selection of handmade delights. Opening just before winter and serving up plenty of hearty dishes isn't just a coincidence.

In fact, there are so many options on offer that you could easily try something new at Casa Nostra on a daily basis until the temperature warms up. We'll recommend the agnolotti pasta filled with lobster and béchamel; veal pockets stuffed with spinach, sage, proscuitto parma and asiago cheese; seafood pizza topped with Fior di Latte, smoked salmon, prawns and caviar; and cannoli shells with a traditional Sicilian vanilla custard, just to get things started — and perusing the six-page drinks list, too. And if you're dropping by during the day, a set menu of choices under $20 will brighten up your lunch.
