Overview

Since opening in late 2010, The Ponycat café in New Farm has built and maintained a solid following of loyal customers through a fun outlook, tasty all-day menu, great coffee and friendly service.

The location of The Ponycat (toward the New Farm end of Brunswick Street, a few doors down from Gertie’s) is a buzzing spot on weekends, and there is occasionally a short wait to get a table. Don’t let this deter you, though. The Ponycat isn’t reinventing the wheel with its all-day breakfast and lunch menus, but it doesn’t need to. The meals are beautifully executed with a rustic feel and full, strong flavours.

The marinated sardines on toast are delicious, with a special mention going to the amazing relish served on the side. The Boston baked beans are also a consistent crowd pleaser. On top of the savoury options, there is a great range of fresh juices available as well as a well-stocked cake cabinet for the sweet tooth.

The coffee on offer is Giancarlo brand and expertly made; if the café is full when you arrive, grab a cup while you wait for a table. You can also take the opportunity to admire the colourful artwork that covers the walls, including a picture of the Ponycat itself. The tables are decorated with a mishmash of photographs, article snippets and other bits and bobs.

The overall effect inside is an atmosphere of carefree fun, which is reflected in the attitudes of the staff and the people who stop in for a bite. As far as all-day menus in Brisbane go, The Ponycat is one of the top options.
