In the lead up to the release of Gainsbourg, the ACMI in Melbourne is offering the chance to all of Serge's fans to catch up on his filmic repertoire with an exhibition of screenings named Je t'aime: The Filmic Lives of Gainsbourg and Birkin.

For those of you not familiar with the French legend, Serge Gainsbourg is the bohemian darling of France - singer, songwriter, actor and director. After a brief muse-esque dalliance with Brigitte Bardot, Gainsbourg married the English singer and actress Jane Birkin. His career spans many women, muses, marriages, children, and controversial songs and films including one which incorporated sounds of the female orgasm.

Every member of the Gainsbourg family seems to be talented in all facets of film, and these include those which he, his daughter Charlotte and his ex-wife Jane have either written, directed, produced, composed for, or starred in.

Here are some recommended screenings for our friends in Melbourne:

1. Je t'aime...moi non plus (a sexual taboo-laden story written by Gainsbourg starring Birkin and Joe Dallesandro)

2. Come Dance With Me (Bardot at her finest)

3. Gainsbourg and His Girls (An explorative romp through the life of Gainsbourg and his many loves)

4. Slogan (Jane Birkin's first French-speaking role)
