The First Artist Lineup Has Been Announced For Splore

Seven international acts and five locals have been revealed as part of the first lineup for next year’s Splore Festival. In true Splore form, the bill brings together an eclectic range of genres, including folk-inflected indie rock, charismatic blues, dancefloor-friendly ska-dub and lo-fi soul.

Alabama indie-songwriter Waxahatchee will make an appearance at the ocean-side festival off the back of releasing her third album. It will be the musician’s first visit to New Zealand. Also coming by the way of American is indie blues band The Reverend Peyton and His Big Damned Band, who will play two sets led by growling vocals and superlative finger picking.

From the UK comes electronic six-piece The Dub Pistols, known for their fusion of ska, dub and hip hop and collaborations with the likes of The Specials, Busta Rhymes and Horace Andy. Rounding off the international lineup is rising Adelaide hip hop artist Tkay Maidza, Brisbane soul-experimentalist Jordan Rakei, London hip hop DJ Sarah Love, and Splore regulars The Cuban Brothers and The Correspondents. Local acts announced include Katchafire, The Supervillains, Tipene, Eno x Dirty and Race Banyon.

The three-day event (February 19 -21, 2016) will once again set up at one of the most picturesque festival locations in the world: Tapapapakanga Park. The coastal farm park is a breezy one-hour journey from Auckland and enables gig-goers to watch the action unfold while lying on the idyllic beach or taking a dip in the warm water.
