Overview

For five years Auckland's waterfront has celebrated Matariki, now going on the sixth year the festival will hit it off once again with nothing better than some music, entertainment and seriously tasty kai. With the sharing of food in families and communities being an important aspect of Māori culture, it seems fitting that Food Space vendors will be lining Silo Park to provide a range of exciting street food that will leave you going back for seconds.

The weekend's lineup starts Friday 5 to 10pm with local DJ Maori Hifi, along with other artists, who will be providing slick jams for Aucklanders throughout the evening. Grab a beverage and something to snack on and enjoy the light installations that range from 'The Seven Silos of Matariki' created by a group of artists brought together by Angus Muir Design, to an interactive area for kids by 'Silo 7' with UV tennis and drawing.

Saturday 2 to 10pm brings more to feast your eyes upon, and maybe a little something for your stomach too. The Mighty Matariki Markets will set up shop with a huge selection of Māori food. The vendor lineup includes: The Maori Kai Cupboard, Fusion Flavas, Puha & Pakeha, Mama's Hangi, along with many more.

To round off the fabulous Matariki festivities at Auckland's waterfront, Sunday 12 noon to 5pm holds a variety of traditional Māori games and an educational Matariki Korero. This free event is great for the whole whanau to get involved to not only to full your puku, but to learn a thing or two about Matariki and celebrate as a community the commencement of a new life cycle.
