The entrenched summer activities of backyard cricket and drinking are set to unite in a marriage made in heaven.

Created by Kiwi entrepreneur Torben Landl, founder of private parking space app Parkbubble and business partner Matt Taggart, ThirstBat is a fully functioning cricket bat that doubles as drinking vessel. Made of food grade plastic, each bat features a bottle opener, a release valve for carefree or beer bong-style drinking and a sturdy handle grip, enabling that perfect swing or cover drive.

The concept of the ThirstBat was dreamt up in anticipation of some friendly competition at a bachelor party. While it was designed with New Zealand's most popular summer sport in mind, the pair also have their sights set on the international market with a second baseball ThirstBat (Chugger) which they hope will meet the demands of customers from the US and Japan. "We took a Chugger to the AT&T Park, home of San Francisco Giants, and the punters couldn't get enough of it, they were coming up to us and wanting to purchase the product then and there." says ThirstBat founder Torben Landl.

The Chugger bat holds up to 900mls of beverage, while the cricket bat (Slogger) holds up to 1500ml for thirsty Kiwis.

To help the pair take ThirstBat to the extra distance, they have launched a Kickstarter campaign. For $35 or more, pledgers will receive their very own ThirstBat Chugger Baseball Bat or Slogger Cricket Bat.
