If making naughty jokes and oversharing were a job, Toni Lodge and Ryan Jon Dunn would be very successful. As luck would have it, that's exactly what they do on the Toni and Ryan Podcast – their fifth birthday event in Christchurch last week sold out in two minutes flat.
The duo has announced its first Australian tour from Sunday, November 1 to Monday, January 25. Instead of a traditional stage show, audiences will get a front-row seat as Lodge and Dunn record a live episode of their podcast, which will be uploaded to Spotify and Apple Podcasts afterwards.
The show kicks off its run of theatres at The Street in Canberra on Sunday, November 1, followed by Melbourne's Comedy Theatre on Monday, November 2. The Theatre Royal in Hobart gets the show on Sunday, November 15, before it heads north to Perth's Regal Theatre on Wednesday, November 18.
In January, the jokes will return at Adelaide's Art Theatre on Friday, January 22, hop over to The Tivoli in Brisbane on Sunday, January 24 and wrap up in Sydney's Enmore Theatre.
Lodge and Dunn met as colleagues at Melbourne radio station KIIS 101.1 – Dunn says in an interview that Lodge was "the funniest person in the building and co-hosted a radio demo with Lodge to help her land her own show. It went nowhere with management, but Instagram was clamouring for more.
The pair launched the Toni and Ryan Podcast during the pandemic lockdown in 2021, where they mocked each other's Tinder bios and swapped bad advice. The show quickly ramped up to five episodes a week, gained a global following with a million downloads a month, and led into a 2023 North America road trip and gigs in London, Dublin, Stockholm, and Riga.
