Wine lovers wanting an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life need not look any further than the ultimate wine country escape for two at Kingsford The Barossa — only a 45-minute drive from Adelaide.

Originally built in 1856, this picturesque 225-acre heritage homestead is found among the Barossa's rolling hills. It boasts a solar-heated swimming pool, scenic walking trails, an outdoor firepit (available from April til September) and a heritage shearing shed.

Accommodation at the retreat ranges from guest rooms in the original homestead tastefully renovated with modern amenities to view suites in the recently extended lodge with stunning sunrise views over the hills and 'smart suite' technology. And if you really wish to enjoy the historical features of the estate, there's the 19th-century Stonemason's Cottage.

An on-site luxury restaurant, Orelana, serves historically inspired meals made using only the finest local produce. Those wanting a true taste of the region can opt for the seven-course tasting menu that journies the guest through the rich history of the property. There's also the Best of Barossa three-course table d'hôte menu that also includes shared snacks on arrival and petit fois to finish.

Kingsford can help organise transfers, wine tours, cooking classes, spa treatments, and more if you wish to explore the region while in the area. The homestead is nestled at the southern end of the Barossa Valley. It is only a short 15-minute drive to iconic Aussie wineries, including Seppeltsfield, Yalumba, Henschke and Langmeil — home to the oldest surviving shiraz vines in the world.
