Conceived by the same Sammy Akuthota that brought us Auckland's adored Satya Chai Lounge is neighbourhood newcomer and K' Road's latest: GG x Flamingo.

Tucked off the bustling strip that is Karangahape Road, behind two dramatically draped curtains, is the cocktail bar we've all been waiting for. Drawing the eye away from its dark and romantically dim counterparts is a well-lit tiki bar that spans the entirety of the establishment's back wall. Adored with a unique collection of American and Japanese whiskeys and rums, it would seem GG x Flamingo is set to satisfy the cocktail connoisseur and spirit sipper alike.

Upon arrival, the bartender will welcome you to pull up a stool and enquire about your evening's beverage inclination. We recommend a cocktail that incorporates one of their own infused rums. Sitting pretty top shelf, at the end of the bar is a selection of premium rums that GG x Flamingo are infusing themselves. Bringing a new depth to the spirit we hadn't anticipated, GG x Flamingo go as far as importing spices direct from India, and skillfully roast them in order to achieve the ideal infusing partner. Once up to scratch, Sammy and his team then proceed to infuse the roasted spices with premium rum over a period that can take months. Meanwhile, they keep a watchful eye over their batches and taste test everyday to ensure, once served, they're just right.

Stepping back from the trend of contemporary Asian cuisine, Sammy says that if he was to serve a select food over the bar, it would have to be exquisite. In order to achieve such an acclaim, he knew importing his vegetable samosas direct from India was the only way.

This new kid on the block is exactly that: new. While the word is spreading, soak up this relaxed tiki bar atmosphere and cosy up with a couple cocktails.
