Overview

With a passionate head chef imported all the way from the land of ze frog, Ironbar incorporates everything unique about French cuisine (minus the frogs), with everything open and fun about K Road culture. With funky wall designs, Mos Def coming through the speakers, and some seriously good value Spanish wine (Castano Monastrell $8 a glass), Ironbar makes for the perfect uptown escape from your working day.

Entrée’s like the Cauliflower Velvet with roasted almonds ($13) will melt in ze mouth and have you questioning why you ever thought mums cauliflower cheese was something to write home about. Sorry mum. Ironbar’s menu is open to interpretation and seasonal changes; sweet treats like the Crème Brulee ($8) are infused with lavender one week and lemons the next. The signature dish, Chicken couscous, with crushed eggplant puree ($20) will please kids and connoisseurs alike. Its fine dining food, at K Road prices.

Ironbar is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks Monday through Saturday. Comedy shows, djs, and down to earth live music are a regular feature. Business partners Michael and Sara only rolled this joint in February but it is one that Aucklander’s will be sure to be tripping on for years to come.
