Why lower yourself to a stuffy cinema when you can catch films still hot from the projector and all-time classics under the stars this summer? American Express Openair Cinemas is the latest outdoor film series to announce its seasonal lineup.

From February 1 to March 4, the series will screen at Western Springs Quarry, including Taika Waititi's highly acclaimed Thor: Ragnarok, the latest instalment from the Star Wars franchise The Last Jedi, the soon-to-be-released Pitch Perfect 3, the reboot of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, a sing-a-long version of Grease and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, among plenty of others.

Ponsonby's Farina will serve a series of alfresco long table dinners and fresh and authentic Napoletana pizzas, including a Nutella-filled calzone, and the bar will be pouring the good stuff from Giesen Wines and Canterbury craft brewery Kaiser Brothers. For those looking for extra special treatment, loungers, blankets and table service can be added on to ticket packages — America Express cardholders get first dibs.

Those short of company are welcome to bring their pooch along to any screening. Spoilt dogs will enjoy a picnic platter of doggy delights and their very own canine couch.

In addition, there will be special events taking place across the installation, including live music performances and DJs before the big screen lights up.
