Ha the Unclear

Deep south satire hits this Big City.

Overview

With past reviews like 'absolutely bonkers' and 'fascinatingly odd', and a backdrop that features sultry velvet curtains and sporadic fluorescent lights, you'd be foolish not to visit Golden Dawn on May 18 as Dunedin-bred Ha the Unclear check in for the Auckland leg of their single release tour.

Contrasting careful lyrics with irresistible pop hooks, the four-piece band release their aptly named new offering 'Big City' after a spate of international tours and a move to Auckland— a play which all but guarantees plenty of fresh cynicism for their growing fan-base.

In 'Big City' the boys tell the story of a bus-trip gone awry, and while lead singer Michael Cathro laments the invisible attitudes of the city creatures, you'll find yourself at the edge of an epiphany... Until their glorious harmonies and rockabilly jangle bring you back.

Thought-provoking, storytelling, and just the right amount of nonsense, Ha the Unclear are certainly worth the $10 cover charge, and a fistful of drinks.
