Girls are on top this month, but everyone is welcome to celebrate.
Off to a fierce start with young gun Jacinda Ardern announced as the new Labour party leader, girls rule the roost this August as hundreds of fashionistas are set to descend upon Auckland for New Zealand Fashion Week (NZFW) — and the team at The Jefferson want in on the action.
From the crew that brought us the ultra-cool Juniper Room pop-up last November, The Jefferson (long-hailed Auckland's most masculine watering hole) taps into its more feminine alter-ego, transforming into beautiful cocktail bar, The Jane.
Named in homage to Thomas Jefferson's mother Jane, the transformation takes place from August 29 through to September 2, reconnecting with a more feminine side in honour of the leading ladies which have, and continue to shape the world's narrative.
Fitting for a generation which persists smashing gender stereotypes, The Jane will be holding a succession of events throughout the week including the release of a limited edition menu of whiskey cocktails (no longer reserved for those wanting to put hair on their chest).
Kicking off the good times, August 29 will see a Perrier-Jouët Champagne tasting session hosted by acclaimed champagne connoisseur Bridget Schmidt, where guests are invited to party with their palate testing four rare Champagne varieties including the exclusive Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque. Seats are limited for this intimate event (which include a welcome drink, four tastings and bites), so be ready to snap yours up for $80.
The shining star of the week, Women Who Whiskey will be held on August 30 with New Zealand's Whiskey Girl (Tash McGill). Back after huge demand last year, Tash teaches everything from composition to consumption with her signature humour and effervescent delivery. The $80 ticket includes a welcome drink and tasting session with six whiskey's and bites.
Wrapping up the week, August 31 sees the Cocktail Masterclass event which promises to enlighten even those with the most basic knowledge in the tried and tested techniques for cocktail triumph. Tickets are $80 and include a welcome drink, the interaction cocktail workshop (where you're encouraged to drink the fruits of your labour) and bites.
