Overview

From humble beginnings as a lone coffee cart in Aotea Square, Kōkako has now become one of the biggest organic coffee roasteries in Auckland. The Fairtrade-certified organisation has won awards for sustainability and serves killer vegetarian cuisine out of its flagship cafe in the old Grey Lynn Post Office.

With the company's roasting headquarters zoned for redevelopment last year, it relocated to a 1970s engineering warehouse in Mount Eden. The Charles Street space was transformed by award-winning architects and designers CTRL Space from existing and salvaged materials to house the coffee engine room as well as barista training facilities and a showroom.

Following a small launch exhibition, the roastery is now ready to officially cut the ribbon on the space. The Kōkako + Friends End of Summer Fair will take place on Saturday 10 March from 10am to 2pm. The family-friendly day out will feature fresh coffee aplenty, carnival style games, prizes and special guests including Coromandel food truck Oh Boy Tacos, travelling florist La Femme Fleur, the folks from Kelmarna Organic Gardens, All Good Bananas, Karma Cola, Garden Objects, La Marzocco, Smart Ass TP, and a few others.
