Overview

Manifesto is an immersive 13-channel video installation from celebrated German artist Julian Rosefeldt.

Two-time Academy Award-winning Australian actress Cate Blanchett personifies multiple characters across the series of short films, including a school teacher, factory worker, choreographer, punk, newsreader, scientist, puppeteer, widow, homeless man and many more.

Blanchett's outstanding performance pays homage to the tradition of artist manifestos and embodies the characteristics and symbolism of different time periods and art movements.

From Futurists and Dadaists, to Suprematists and Situationists, director Julian Rosefeldt has masterfully portrayed the time periods and beauty of the manifestos, which are often the strong, uninhibited voice of generations who want to change the world.

Each short film will be played on its own screen, and viewers can make their way through all 13 to hear the unique story of each character.

Auckland Art Gallery has collaborated with the Auckland Arts Festival to present this unforgettable, sophisticated work.
