Overview

Vegans look away, there's nothing for you to see here. The Elephant Wrestler in Takapuna is transforming from mild mannered suburban pub into a rootin', tootin', bluegrass playin' barbecue rib joint.

This southern-inspired pop-up is on every Sunday from June 17 to July 29 and be assured that The Elephant Wrestler courtyard (and, no doubt, the surrounding Takapuna streets) will be awash with the aromas of southern spice and smoke as a host of experienced pit masters prepare their personal interpretation of what great low 'n' slow barbecue should be. The pit masters are on a rotating schedule and each Sunday the barbecue savant in question will start preparing and cooking from 7am with ribs available for purchase from 1pm. On the lineup: The Slow Joint, Meat Fingers Barbecue, A Tribe Called Que, BBQWar, Mile Marker 66, Rum & Que and Fat N Drunk Barbecue.

The event is in collaboration with Tennessee tipple Jack Daniels so cocktails will be flowing as the best of Auckland's rockabilly, bluegrass and country bands get the rib joint rocking.

Bookings are not essential but are recommend as rib numbers are limited on the day.
