Overview

Known for exhibiting some of the most interesting, cutting-edge and legendary bands under the alt banner, The Others Way returns to Karangahape Road on 31 August.

The street-wide music festival tips its hat to international music mixers CMJ and SXSW, where attendees can map out their own trajectory across a multitude of venues. Stages for this year's event will extend from Whammy Bar and Wine Cellar to Galatos, Cross Street Markets, The Thirsty Dog and everywhere in between. It also falls in line with the Going Global Music Summit where some of the world's most influential industry insiders pop by for a series of panels and workshops.

Assembling on those stages will be a bona fide sonic feast from New Zealand, including incredibly rare appearances from Headless Chickens to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their album Stunt Clown, noise band Bailterspace who were once referred to as "the Sonic Youth of the Southern Hemisphere", and Flying Nun-affiliated three-piece, Superette.

Elsewhere you'll find The Beths whose latest single 'Happy Unhappy' was called the "Song of the Summer" by Rolling Stone, teenage hip hop duo Church & AP, Estère with her brand of electric blue witch hop, guitar-less guitar band Wax Chattels, and Hans Pucket from Wellington.

An exception to the all-local theme is independent Australian label Chapter Music who will host a stage with performances from The Goon Sax, Gregor, Laura Jean and label co-founder Guy Blackman.
