The White Guitar

Overview

While many celebrities embark on tell-all exposés of their lives vis-a-vis reality TV shows, ghost-written autobiographies featuring intense head-on portraits (see here, here, here and here), New Zealand rapper Scribe, who shot to fame with his singles 'Not Many' and 'Dreaming' in 2004, is taking on his own autobiography with a newfangled approach. The White Guitar is a half-musical half-play about him and his family, the Luafutus, starring him, his father John and brother Matthias.

After the attention and sales following his second album Rhyme Book waned, Scribe told Campbell Live in 2011 he became addicted to drugs, alcohol and gambling - even pawning off the platinum awards he won for his debut album, The Crusader, to feed his addiction. The White Guitar is a raw, charged, autobiographical play that cuts to the bone to explore the life of one of New Zealand's most iconic rappers pre-, during and post-fame.
