This New Viaduct Harbour Opening Puts an Upmarket Twist on Family-Style Sharing

The trio behind beloved brewery-restaurant-bowling alley, Dr Rudis, are opening a new restaurant right next door. Promising the same gorgeous Viaduct views with a chilled out atmosphere, Saint Alice welcomes guests for family-style sharing in a warm, vibrant environment.

Situated in Kermadec Restaurant's former home to the left of Rudis, the space is slightly higher and perched forward to give diners the impression of floating above the water.

The owners, Callum O'Brien, Andrew Roborgh and Kristian Lloydd have pulled out all the stops in designing their newest restaurant adventure. The interior carries a similar vibe to Dr Rudis, with rows of picnic tables and benches filling the space.

O'Brien says Alice is related to Rudis, but not the same. "It's Rudis' cousin. Alice is a little bit more refined, I think there will be a bit more of a dining element, but I don't think it's necessarily a sit-down formal dining place. It's more upbeat and social," explains O'Brien.

The menu was designed by ex-Depot Eatery head chef, Maia Atvars, who says the emphasis is on the fresh raw bar, with meats and vegetables grilled on the two and a half metre-long barbecue. "Everything is going to get touched with the fire and smoke, carrying a bit of smoky elements to it, and everything is super fresh. We have the freshest seafood in town," says Atvars.

Atvars has a considered approach in everything he does, focusing on the small details in the cuisine that carries through, pulling the entire restaurant together. The raw bar will feature oysters shucked freshly in front of your eyes, with a weekday oyster special kicking off from this Monday. The happy hour boasts $1 oysters from 3pm to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Saint Alice is open from Monday, 3 December, at Level 2, Corner Quay & Hobson Streets, Viaduct Harbour.
