Auckland lost an icon when seafood restaurant Hammerheads went into liquidation last year. In operation for 25 years, the establishment were purveyors of the notoriously tricky seafood scene, a seemingly perfect theme given its position directly next door to an aquarium and sweeping views of the Auckland harbour.

One year on and the prized Tamaki Drive premises is about to get a new lease of life, in the form of a new wellness hub and yoga centre. Set to open mid-June, True Food & Yoga is the brainchild of celebrated restaurateurs Nic Watt - the face behind hugely popular Japanese robata restaurant MASU - and wife Kelly - a qualified yoga teacher and Harley Street-trained reflexologist.

The business will serve several yoga styles across two studios, an 80-seat café offering food that supports an active and healthful lifestyle, a wellness room, a chiropractor room, an outdoor break out room and a retail section.

Under the couple's direction the kitchen will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week and for weekend brunches. Sidestepping marine life, the cuisine will focus on a "concise local, nutrient-dense menu that will evolve with the seasons, with the couple sourcing and foraging all products from sustainable sources."
