Moustache Milk & Cookie Bar Is Closing, Returning As a Ten-Metre-Long Cookie Bus

Friday 29 January, 2016 will be a sad day for lovers of all things delightful and delicious, as Auckland iconic Moustache Milk And Cookie Bar closes its doors for the final time. Moustache has overcome many an obstacle in the past to keep the dream alive, including a 7,847-strong petition against their landlord to prevent a ridiculous rent hike and crowd funding to support their next move while living off the shoestring budget of $5 a day. But alas, that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

It’s been an eventful few years for Deanna, Moustache’s head cookie aficionado, who graduated University, and took the plunge into business ownership at the tender age of 21. She quit her nine-to-five and worked on Moustache full time, gaining the public's affection and respect for her unflinching determination, bubbly personality and phenomenal milk and cookies. So it’s with fond memories that we look back on the last three and a half years of impromptu cookie pit stops and milkshakes for breakfast.

While it is indeed a great loss for Auckland's dedicated cookie munchers, Deanna isn’t crying over spilt milk and her next exciting project is already well underway. Last year she raised over $90,000 from 1261 backers via Kiwi crowdfunding platform Pledge Me to keep her business alive. Her next ambitious project is (get this) to transform a 10-metre-long 1978 Bedford Bus into a mobile milk and cookie bar, in order to spread the delights of Moustache nationwide, as she tours the country. So while it’s tata for now, this is not goodbye and we’ll hopefully see Deanna and Moustache soon in the snazzy new milk and cookie bus, keeping us happy with doughy, sugary snacks and homemade milkshakes.
