When it comes to steak, it can pay not to over-complicate things - and the Angus Steak House keeps it pure and simple.
Steak - big, bold and delicious. While Angus might not have the 'flashness' of some of AKL's more fine-dining establishments, it doesn't carry the pricetag either - instead you'll get just the steak you want, how you want it. Rustling up more than 40 years of presence in the red meat game this establishment serves its namesake - prime New Zealand bred Angus beef that is juicy, succulent and delicious, for lunch and dinner alongside a slightly dubious salad bar and some satisfactory sides (why not try oysters, on the steak) and starters. But who's really here for them?
Regardless of the cut you order (and there are many to choose from - we go eye fillet, but why limit yourself?) you'll find a flat steak rate to take the hassle out of things, whilst the meat is served up flame grilled and on a sizzling hot plate. Basically this place is like Vegas, a little over the top but great at what it does. Naturally your selection will be cooked to your liking, and its worth noting that for those who have a carnivorous hankering but yearn for something more, a rack of lamb, pork chops or venison are all on offer too.
The decor is similarly a mixture of 90s restaurant ambiance that's unpretentious and brick-laden, and at complete contrast with the collection of nightclubs that surround it (handy should the need to dance the cholesterol off afterward overcome you).
We advise you not to expect the world, but if a juicy and giant slab of steak if your desire, Angus Steak House won't disappoint.
