Overview

The Bird's finally flown to the Shore, and it's the beloved chicken empire's biggest and best restaurant yet. Offering an extended menu and plenty of seating, it's worth a visit even if you're a regular punter at one of their three eateries in Ponsonby or the CBD.

As well as their famous, free-range rotisserie chicken, ever-changing range of seasonal salads and delectable burgers and rolls, brand spanking new brunch and snack options are available for takeaway or dine-in. Take a seat in the charming courtyard and order a raw vegetable brekkie salad, which features a perfectly poached egg in a nest of the Raw Energy salad (julienned beetroot and carrot with walnuts, spinach and a maple vinaigrette dressing). There's also crunchy toasted seeds and a pesto-like raw dip in the mix. If you need carbs in the morning, there's an 'On Toast' option with sourdough and roasted vine tomatoes with ricotta and basil.

It's difficult to find a decent bite to eat in those awkward hours between 2:00pm - 6:00pm, and Bird's pecking menu is just the ticket. Make sure you try their authentic New York-style chicken wings with your choice of BBQ or Hot sauce, or give the crudités, served with the dip of the day, a go.

As for drinks, there's organic coffee on offer and cold-pressed or made-to-order juices available at the aptly named Juice & Java station. A little bird tells us an alcohol license is in the works, and patrons will be able to enjoy wine, beer and cider with their chook come late April.
