Overview

If the Skytower hadn't claimed the title of Auckland's best known landmark, Smith and Caughey's would have. The place is an institution, founded in 1880 as a drapery and millinery by Marianne Smith, the company expanded exponentially to reach its iconic status that it holds today.

With well over a century of experience in the industry, the department store now sells a vast range of products, from high end fashion to beauty, to homewares and toys, Smith and Caughey's covers every aspect of luxury needs. Now with two branches in Auckland, both stores are enormous and deluxe in their interior. It is one of those places where no matter what you buy, it is sure to be either in fashion or timeless. S&C never misses a beat, maybe tribute to the fact that it has seen so many fashion blunders over its 130 year lifespan, or maybe due to its careful filtering product allowed to dress its shelves.

Th best thing about Smith and Caughey's is its transformation in the festive season. Its window displays are as sought after as that massive Whitcoulls Santa, and it's Santa's Enchanted Forest is just that. Both of these child distracting tactics makes the pioneer department store the ideal choice of Christmas shopping location.
