Overview

If you want people to think you’re a whole lot wealthier and more fashionable than you actually are, you should shop at Tatty’s. Most of what you’ll find within the shop’s unsettlingly turquoise walls is good condition second-hand designer, and if it’s not designer it is undoubtedly on trend.

The store has two branches, one in the Pons and the other in High Street. I’m guessing both stores are micromanaged by the same eagle eye, since there is never a garment out of place or more shabby than chic. The Ponsonby store is the larger of the two, and is generally easier to navigate. The clothes are separated into categories including vintage, tees, dresses, and from there the racks are further categorised by colour. Super handy if you have a specific item in mind.

The stores are largely focussed on womenswear, but each also has a small childrenswear section and a slightly larger menswear department, both of which are every bit as on point as the rest of the store. If you’re doing the old wardrobe clear-out, then Tatty’s will take your rejected threads as long as they are in decent condition and of a certain calibre. Maybe check the vibe of the store before you bring in all your last season Glassons basics, Tatty’s isn't like a regular op shop, it’s a cool op shop (Mean Girls, anyone?)
