Those looking to practise their swinging technique or simply relieve some stress and by hitting the bejeezus out of a flying orb will have the perfect opportunity when two pop-up batting cages arrive at Silo Park this month.

Together with Avondale training facility The Fieldhouse and Baseball New Zealand, the waterfront community space will host the outdoor baseball cages from January 20 through February 19. One cage will use an automated ball throwing machine for batters while the other will be dedicated to pitching. The fee is a cool $2 to try your hand at both.

To round out the innings, a special screening of Kevin Costner fantasy-sports-drama Field of Dreams will be projected onto the silos on Friday 17 February. Batter up.
