Musée Extérieur

Overview

Know where to look and you'll discover North Adelaide has been transformed into one big outdoor art gallery, filled with reproductions of historic European master paintings. And you can unearth them all with a self-guided jaunt along the new pop-up art trail dubbed Musée Extérieur (French for outdoor museum).

On display until September 14, the trail features ten different paintings, showcasing works from icons like Simon Vouet, Claude-Joseph Vernet and Filippino Lippi. You'll spy Jan Massys' Merry Company (1562) sitting pretty at the Archer Hotel, Portrait of a Woman (1805) by Thomas Henry gracing the Women's & Children's Hospital, and Guillaume Fouace's The Lenten Luncheon (1889) splashed across the wall of Melbourne Street Fine Wine Cellars. The art project is a collaboration with the French town of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, whose Thomas Henry Museum features the historic works among its renowned collections.
