Kick Back by the River, Then Dance Your Way Through an Overwater Disco

There's plenty happening at Howard Smith Wharves this Easter, giving you and other half a few choices. Keen to relax by the river and make a cruisy day of it? Eager to make shapes at an overwater disco? Or, of course, you can do both.

The first comes via the Easter Extravaganza on the Main Lawn, a two-day waterside party includes live tunes, river views, plenty to eat and drink, and games on the grass — all across Saturday, March 30–Sunday, March 31. On Saturday, you'll want to head from 12pm till late. On Sunday, the fun runs from 10.30am, also till late.

Make a date with the inner-city precinct on the Sunday and you can hop into  Mr Percival's Easter Sunday River Disco. Kicking off at 3pm, it's exactly what it sounds like. MC Double D, who you might know from Sneaky Sound System, will be spinning tunes with other DJs for company — and they'll be on the decks right through until late.

As for drinks, there'll be bubbles aplenty at Mr Percival's outdoor spritz bar, as well as Italian cocktails. And, the usual food menu will be on offer if you need a prawn cocktail, Moreton bay bug roll, bug-topped pizza or lemon curd parfait for sustenance.

Enjoy Two Chances to Browse and Buy Your Way Around an Easter Market

Brisbane's busy market scene loves an occasion. Mother's Day markets, winter markets, Christmas in July markets, spring markets, festive markets, Halloween markets — this city has seen them all, including in past years, and will continue to do so. Accordingly, it should come as zero surprise that Easter markets are now a thing around town, including at Redcliffe's regular excuse to get shopping by the sea.

Indeed, only the Redcliffe Markets Easter Weekend Pop-Up Market will take you and your plus one browsing and buying by the Redcliffe jetty. Fancy an excuse to eat sweet treats at an ace waterside location? That's on offer from 8am–2pm on Friday, March 29 and again from the same times on Sunday, March 31.

Also on the bill: over 200 market stalls, live tunes, Easter bunnies (well, folks in the appropriate suits) hopping around, viewing the start of the Brisbane-to-Gladstone race, and gifts and homewares to shop. And, among that heap of food stalls serving up bites to eat, plus drinks, there'll be everything from seafood and macrons to pizza and wagyu wraps — and a big focus on dessert.

Yes, chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate features heavily. Entry is free, but you'll want your wallet for all that browsing and buying.

Sip Banoffee Cocktails Out of Easter Bunnies

The Terrace at Emporium is an impressive spot for a drink every day of the year. Being perched 21 storeys above South Bank will do that. Come Easter, it doesn't need to do much to get its patrons in a sweet mood, then — but the sky-high venue is pouring themed cocktails anyway through until Saturday, March 30.

Two seasonal tipples are on offer if you and your significant other like your Easter spirit with some actual spirits. One in particular couldn't be more perfect for the occasion, coming served in a chocolate bunny. That's no longer a novelty, but a banoffee cocktail made with spiced rum, caramelised banana, coffee and chocolate is quite the treat.

Also on offer: a choc-pop tipple made with dark rum, muscat and savoiardi, then topped with a mascarpone coco-pop whip.

Whether you're doing your Easter celebrating over lunch or after work, the cocktails are available every day of the week for $22 each.

Big Blowouts:

Settle in for a Four-Course Seafood Feast with Hot Cross Bun Bread and Butter Pudding

If you and your special someone's Easter routine usually involves a seafood feast, then you might want to make a date with a certain Kangaroo Point fish 'n' chippery this year. From Friday, March 29–Sunday, March 31, One Fish Two Fish is serving up plenty of the ocean's finest for the occasion, all as part of a $95 four-course meal that starts with seafood platters and remains just as indulgent from there.

In the past, One Fish Two Fish has called this yearly feast Great Friday; however, in 2024 it's keeping the specials going for three days. So, the name still applies, but it's a whole-weekend deal. That means more chances to head along.

Those platters are made to share, and come stacked with pacific oysters, Moreton Bay bugs, cooked Mooloolaba prawns, blue swimmer crab and green-lip mussels. Next comes pineapple and mint granita as a palette cleanser, then grilled goldband snapper with Amalfi salad.

We've only listed three rounds so far, with the fourth course getting sweet. To wrap things up, you'll be tucking into hot cross bun bread and butter pudding. To attend, you'll need to book a spot for one of five sittings: 11.30am–1.30pm, 2–4pm and 5.30–7.30pm on Friday; and 12–2pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

Say Cheers to Crème Egg Cocktails and Easter Cookie Cake Books

Since the beginning of 2024, W Brisbane has been hosting the Ever After High Tea, which takes inspiration from the Fairy Tales exhibition currently on display at the Gallery of Modern Art across the river. For bunny and chocolate season this year, the spread isn't going away — but it is getting a few apt additions, as part of the high tea's easter edition until Sunday, April 7.

The fairy tale cookie cake book that you and your favourite person can each paint before you devour will now feature Easter imagery, while the Crème Eggstraordinate is taking over as the high tea's signature boozy sip. What it's trying to recreate is right there in its name, as made with Bacardi Superior, Malibu, mango nectar, coconut cream, pineapple juice, lime juice and, of course, a crème egg.

Running from 11am–3pm Friday-Sunday at Living Room Bar, the high tea also includes hot cross buns with whipped butter and strawberry jam as part of its culinary spread, as well as a chocolate Easter egg surprise that you crack open with a tiny hammer. From the regular menu, the strawberry macaron clocks, Queen of Hearts chocolate and hazelnut cakes, Snow White's Bittersweet Poisoned Apple Mousse, forest mushrooms, cured salmon crostini, chicken pies, cheese and herb bites, and pumpkin tarts with freeze-dried goats cheese are also on offer.

You'll still pay $79 per person for the food, plus endless tea and barista-made coffee. Add in the cocktail and the price is $99. For a glass of champers instead, it's $109. And there's a $45 version for kids, which features bottomless juice, tea, babycinos and hot chocolates.
