A great trailer does two things: makes you want to run to the cinemas to see the film in question, and makes you hit replay on the preview itself the moment it's finished. Or, thanks to the rise of TV trailers, it inspires your next date with your couch. You'll want to get as comfy as possible to binge-watch the next season of your favourite show, after all.

2018 might be midway through its ninth month, but more trailers keep popping up for both big- and small-screen highlights due this year and next. Plenty of them are heading to the small screen — or whichever size screen you use to access streaming platforms. On the TV front, that includes Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Netflix's much darker take on everyone's favourite teenage witch with Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka as the eponymous character, plus Homecoming, an Amazon psychological thriller series directed by Mr Robot's Sam Esmail that marks Julia Roberts first ongoing TV role. There's also the third season of Australia's The Family Law, as based on Benjamin Law's book of the same name, as well as HBO comedy Camping, a remake of the British series of the same name starring Julia Roberts and David Tennant.

Film-wise, a number of enticing titles are also heading to a streaming service near you — the latest Coen brothers film being one of them. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs was initially badged as an anthology series, but the western is now an anthology film instead, winning best screenplay at the recent Venice Film Festival for its efforts. It's joined in the fest-to-streaming camp by July 22, an exploration of the Norwegian terrorist attacks on that date in 2011, as directed by United 93 and Captain Phillips' Paul Greengrass. For those that saw U – July 22 earlier in the year, yes this is the second movie in 2018 to tackle this real-life tragedy.

On the big screen proper, Spring Breakers' filmmaker Harmony Korine returns with The Beach Bum. It looks just as over the top, this time with Matthew McConaughey playing an always-intoxicated poet by the name of Moondog alongside a cast that includes Isla Fisher, Zac Efron and Snoop Dogg. At Eternity's Gate sees Willem Dafoe play Vincent van Gogh during the artist's final days, while the vastly different Anna and the Apocalypse twists the zombie genre into a Christmas musical. In comedy Instant Family, Rose Byrne and Mark Wahlberg become foster parents; however the most intriguing idea comes from Las Vegas Love Stories, a series of micro films from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director Michel Gondry and his brother Olivier Gondry. They're all about love, and when we say they're short, we mean it, because each of the six films only lasts for 8.2 seconds.
