Five Lunch Spots to Hit This Hump Day

in partnership with

Make tracks to these bustling Brissie lunch spots for a mid-week treat to break up your nine-to-five.

You've survived Monday and Tuesday, but if you don't shake things up on hump day you're risking some serious Groundhog Day vibes. Seeing as it's a Wednesday lunch, we aren't suggesting you go too hard — you've gotta save a little stamina for the weekend and keep it together for the rest of the day — but there's nothing wrong with having a few mid-week, Heineken 3s to break up your week.

So round up some coworkers and go for a cheap eat, or sip on a beer with your face in your phone for an hour — that's cool, too. However you choose to play, we've partnered with Heineken to find the best spots in Brissie where you can score a delicious hump day feed and celebrate making it through 50 percent of the working week.

Champing at the bit for a midday escape? Scoot down to this inner-city gem: a monster dining hall with almost every conceivable lunch option available. The venue is split down the middle with both eastern and western options available, from rice paper rolls and banh mi to toasties and slow-braised meat. If you swing an early lunch break, you might even be able to nab the tail-end of the breakfast menu. Of course, the whole space is fully licensed, which means that nobody will bat an eyelid if you decide to wash down those lamb shanks with a beer or two.

Ah, yes — you’ve been here before. Maybe to watch the game. Maybe to see some live music. Maybe to unleash your inner dancing queen. This rambunctious venue is certainly a fave among Brissie locals — lunchtime at the Duck, however, is a little more relaxed. The vibe is chill and the sun is shining and you can trust that the kitchen is pumping out American soul food without missing a beat. Perched in the Gasworks Precinct in Newstead, this is a great little urban oasis for anyone that has been cooped up all week. Feast your eyes on the lush greenery as you clutch your beer with glee and banish any thoughts of emails to the very back of your mind — until that lunch hour is up, at least.

Looming deadlines got you in a mid-week crunch? Nothing like some stodgy pub food to get those creative juices flowing. Well, it’s as good a theory as any. The crew down at Pig ‘N’ Whistle have been serving proper British classics since 2002, and have obviously perfected the art. Screens are mounted throughout the venue, and these guys are dedicated to showing as many local and international games as possible, which is the perfect accompaniment for your hump day lunch.

This is a PSA for anyone that works in the CBD: get outside. You need some vitamin D — your soul cannot survive another lunch eaten al desko. You need the palm trees and pastel skies of sunny California, or Brisbane’s best substitute: Santa Monica Pizza & Burger Bar, at least. The burgers — there are seven on offer, so you can be choosy — are best paired with a crisp beer. Banish any decision fatigue and chip in for a bucket of Heineken 3s — a steal at $20 — since it’s mid-strength, you won’t be too foggy for your afternoon meetings.

We’re jealous of anyone who gets to spend their lunch break in Bulimba. Oxford Street is stuffed full of solid venues, and the nearby ferry terminal means that you can happily escape the midday traffic gridlock. Plonked right in the heart of this entertainment precinct is Oxford 152. This mega pub boasts a 120-seat restaurant, as well as a cheeky beer garden, which is perfect if you haven’t seen the light of day all week and are in dire need of a hump day lunch.
