St Baxter

You'll be feeling the California love at New Farm's latest casual eatery.

California love isn't just a 2Pac song from the '90s — it's also the feeling that has taken over one of New Farm's newest eateries. Here, a slice of America's west coast — plus delights from further south — comes to Brunswick Street. There might not be a beach breeze, but there is plenty of sunshine, plus the requisite relaxed mood.

A selection of new and traditional U.S.-style dishes mixed with Latin American flavours keeps the vibe going, especially as far as your taste buds are concerned. As you pull up a chair in the restaurant's colourful, casual surroundings, you'll be met by street food and more substantial options. Think slow-cooked beef tostaditas for a quick bite to eat, or twelve-hour lamb shoulder for a meal to take your time with.

Plus, in good news for those who finding picking from menus an agonising ordeal, St Baxter also offers a $50 "feed me" option, where the establishment's chefs choose four courses for you. It's perfectly okay if you hope one of them is the dulche le leche — aka an ice cream sandwich with salted popcorn. It's also perfectly okay if you want to wash it down with a jug of sangria.
