A great trailer does two things: makes you want to run to the cinemas to see the film in question, and makes you hit replay on the preview itself the moment it's finished. Or, thanks to the rise of TV trailers, it inspires your next date with your couch. You'll want to get as comfy as possible to binge-watch the next season of your favourite show, after all.

2018 might be nearing the halfway mark, but more trailers keep popping up, and more new films and television shows keep vying for a spot on your watch list. If Ryan Gosling in space sounds like your idea of must-see viewing, then you'll be keen for First Man, the Neil Armstrong biopic that reteams the La La Land actor with director Damien Chazelle and tries to send him to the moon. Or, perhaps you'd like to revisit a few scary favourites, with a new sequel to Halloween (also called Halloween, confusingly) and a remake of Suspiria (by Call Me By Your Name's Luca Guadagnino) both on their way. And then there's the latest chapter in Lisbeth Salander's story, The Girl in the Spider's Web, with Claire Foy taking over the role both Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara have previously played.

Other movies releasing sneak peeks include certain awards contender Widows, the star-studded latest effort from 12 Years a Slave's Steve McQueen; Bad Times at the El Royale, a crime thriller featuring Jeff Bridges, Jon Hamm and Chris Hemsworth; and the newest take on A Star is Born, this time with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. Spider-Man gets animated on the big screen thanks to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The LEGO Movie 2 keeps turning toy bricks into flicks and Wreck-It Ralph: Ralph Breaks the Internet picks up where its predecessor left off.

Finally, the post-apocalyptic Mortal Engines adapts the book of the same name, with Lord of the Rings' Peter Jackson co-writing and producing; Serenity sends Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jason Clarke out sailing for some seaside thrills; and Bumblebee continues a certain shapeshifting robots franchise.
