If you find yourself walking into a building with a giant baby doll on its roof, congratulations, you've made it to Bimbo Deluxe.
Bimbos, as the locals call it, is a warm yet grungy little place nestled right on the corner of Rose and Brunswick Streets, in the uber cool 'burb of Fitzroy.
Once you make your way past the bouncers and into its doors, the smell of vintage couches and Tallegio cheese hits your nose - delicious to some, ghastly to others, fear not. Just like an op shop or your Grandmother's house, you slowly get used to it.
Downstairs, a house DJ spins lounge and remixed disco tunes as the dimly lit seating area is filled with students, hipsters, and office workers – talking, drinking, and chowing down on what Bimbos is known for best; delicious, gourmet pizzas at dirt cheap prices (from $4 - $8)
The list of variations and combinations cater to all walks of life – herbivores, carnivores and those with a sweet tooth – and are served generously.
The organic (roasted pumpkin, soy cheese, pine-nuts, rosemary oil) is excellent if you have that cheesy food craving or for something with a bit of a kick, try the verano aves (chicken, mozzarella, tomato, mango, chill and coriander).
If pizza or a fresh, house-made salad won't do you justice, Bimbos recent venture into hot dogs might be an option.
Deluxe dogs (from $4) come in a variety of styles that match the stereotype of their inspired countries. In the Canuck (Canada) expect to get maple syrup and bacon, or in the Dundee (Australian) you just know beetroot is a guarantee.
The infused vodka mixes ($8) on offer are one of a kind, and to many Melburnians, are thought to be a form of alcohol heaven.
Peach, vanilla and lychee vodka all go down well with a lemonade mixer, while green apple tastes great with a simple soda water.
A handful of house wines and sparkling are also available, while a classic cocktail list is also on offer.
Upstairs, the rooftop bar is probably Bimbos' own worst kept secret, and is packed out in the summer months.
Bimbo Deluxe is funky place to relax with simple food on weeknights, or a great first stop to line one's stomach on a Saturday night.
