Docklands and its Surrounds

Libby Curran
January 15, 2018

Docklands has steadily transformed itself from an oft-underrated inner city pocket into a dynamic destination, packed with culinary and cultural offerings worth crossing town for.

Located just a quick amble from the CBD and boasting kilometres of water frontage and green spaces aplenty, Docklands is a unique part of Melbourne’s fabric. And knitted into that fabric is Victoria Harbour, located where Collins and Bourke streets meet near picturesque harbour waters.

A contemporary feel, not to mention its covetable location right on the CBD’s doorstep, has seen the area’s residential offerings blossom, attracting those keen to be close to the action, without sacrificing fresh air, space and a healthy dose of nature. Going hand in hand with this population boom is a burgeoning cafe, bar and restaurant scene, with vibrant offerings to suit all.

At the same time, a range of urban renewal projects continues to inject vibrancy into the area, enriching Docklands’ and Victoria Harbour’s cultural offerings and boosting the area’s appeal for locals and visitors alike. With a heap of projects earmarked for the future, this is a part of Melbourne that continues to evolve and grow each day. It’s high time you got acquainted, so we’ve teamed up with Australian property group Lendlease to hook you up with the best that Victoria Harbour has to offer. Here’s your comprehensive guide to everything worth eating, drinking, seeing and doing in the area.

GETTING THERE

Docklands is an easy stroll or cycle from the CBD’s western edge and has plenty of public transport options landing you right at its heart. Two tram routes run through the centre of Victoria Harbour, making city access a breeze and Southern Cross train station is located just a ten-minute walk from the promenade.

GETTING AROUND

Docklands’ relatively compact size means getting around on foot or by bike is an absolute cinch. If you’ve opted for four wheels, you’ll find over 5000 reasonably priced public car parking spaces around the area. There’s also a handful of Melbourne Bike Share stations nearby if you’re keen for a cycle.

DON’T MISS

The area is home to an array of unmissable Melbourne icons, from Etihad Stadium to the contemporary Library at The Dock. Wandering the world-renowned public art walk is a must, as is catching the nightly light show over at the Light House installation.

LOCALS LOVE

Al fresco fitness options abound here in Docklands, with the open spaces and waterfront location ensuring some pretty great scenery for those workouts. The area’s also a favourite for photographers, with the city skyline, the Yarra and those sunsets making for some pretty exceptional snaps.

Surround yourself with everything Docklands, Victoria Harbour and the surrounding area have to offer at the new 883 Collins Street development. Top restaurants, cafes, bars and activities are just a stone’s throw away.
