Where soft shell tacos reign supreme.

Mexican street food is the name of the game at Chingon, the beloved cantina and eatery from siblings Michael and Will Balleau. With a resume that also includes Le Bon Ton and 5 Points Deli, the brothers, who grew up in New Mexico, clearly have their fingers on Melbourne's gastronomic pulse – and at Chingon they keep things simple, fresh and delicious. The cornerstones of the menu are their soft shell tacos, which come in six different varieties: char grilled pork, steak with black beans, garlic prawns, fish with fresh lime and cabbage, orange and honey charcoal chicken, and roasted corn, capsicum and baby squash. Their drinks list, meanwhile, overflows with boozy delights, including a selection of tequilas and cocktails.
