Have you ever been out for breakfast and thought you'd really like a side of dip with your eggs? Well, enter Dip In cafe, a Melbourne CBD restaurant that serves up 17 house-made dips alongside a breakfast, lunch, and sharing menu. Genius? We think so.
The two friends who have opened Dip In have collected flavours from all over the world and brought them together in a creative dip menu that spans from Morocco to Mexico. The dips include a biltong pate, sun dried tomato and pine nut pesto, Moroccan carrot, tuna, hummus, tzatziki and guacamole. All are served with house-baked bread — just choose from traditional, olive or seed. Those that avoid gluten will be happy to know they also get in fresh Covent Bakery gluten free bread each morning. Lunchtime also sees non-dip related events like the black lentil and quinoa salad with goats feta, sundried tomatoes and olives, or the chicken schnitzel with creamy honey-mustard dressing, coleslaw and thick-cut chips.
Getting back to eggs and dip, the breakfast menu offers a 'Dip In Your Way' eggs situation that lets you choose your eggs, your bread (go for the bread bowl and get your breakfast served in it), your dip, and then your sides. Adding poached eggs to dip — or vice versa — spells gold in our eyes. And if you don't feel like dip, you can go for the French toast, which is served sweet with mascarpone, banana, berries, maple syrup and cinnamon sugar. The trendy acai bowl even makes an appearance with granola and bananas. Want to keep it simple? A ham, cheese and tomato toasted croissant might be your poison. Maybe a side of dip? How much is too much?
Like many a new venue there are some teething problems with service, but, like any good dip aficionado, we're willing to go back to see how they're going. That's just the kind of people we are.
